The impact of climate change has been described as multifaceted. It impacts the physical environment as well as all aspects of both natural and human systems. This also includes social and economic conditions and the functioning of health systems.
According to the American Public Health Association, the major causes and upstream drivers of climate change and its health impacts revolve around energy, transportation, land use, housing, planning, food and agriculture, and socioeconomic systems.
According to the World Health Organisation, over 3.6 billion people already live in areas highly susceptible to climate change and it is expected that, between 2030 and 2050, climate change impacts will cause up to 250,000 additional deaths per year. The unpredictable and inconsistent nature of changing climate is increasingly posing a significant threat to public health and impacting various aspects of individual and community well-being.
Countries across the world must take intentional steps to mitigate the rising threats of climate change to public health. The 23rd episode of Insights Webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of climate change and its impact on public health. The webinar will explain strategies and how public healthcare systems can respond to potential climate change healthcare emergencies.
